An important thing to understand is that leg pain is a symptom of a problem-of something compressing or irritating the nerve roots that comprise the sciatic nerve-rather than a medical diagnosis ormedical disorder in an of itself. This is an important distinction because it is the underlying diagnosis that often needs to be treated in order to relieve sciatic nerve pain. Common causes of sciatica are a lumbar herniated disc, spinal stenosis, degenerative disc disease or spondylolisthesis.
I studied for five years at the London School of Osteopathy and graduated with a Bachelor of Science honours degree in osteopathy. Subsequent to graduating I have undergone training in medicalacupuncture with the British Medical Acupuncture Society and find the combination of osteopathy with acupuncture to be very effective in the treatment of numerous complaints particularly osteoarthritis in the thumbs and knee. This is the branch of osteopathy that has become my favourite.
